original slide clip slideclip@juno.com Fri Dec 18 12:18:50 PST 1998

To fit the slide clip to your guitar, measure your guitars thickness at the point where clip is to be placed, ( normally placed on horn near base of fretboard). Then measure and bend long end of clip to the same thickness as guitar. Check clip on guitar several times while bending. Phone 541-878-3548 or original slide guitar clip.On the internet

Jamie jamie@mkmassociates.com Fri Dec 18 10:26:44 PST 1998

I would appreciate ANY info anyone might have on this instrument; Dobro, square neck, f holes, fan pattern cover, saddle pick up, laminate birch body, natural, matte finish (looks original- I'm not kidding), no bindings. The serial number is 8 34700 7D. The condition is good to very good. Any info on production dates, fair price, Dobro trivia, etc. would be very much appreciated Jamie

Kelly Juchemich@Aol.com Mon Dec 14 21:29:21 PST 1998

Theofanes Oliveira theofanes@bcb.gov.br Wed Dec 9 15:57:57 PST 1998

I tried to access information about George Harrison in his page and I got an error message. What's going on? I'd like to read information you have about the greatest guitarrist I've heard. Tank you.

brian <aunttee@ctaz.com> Fri Nov 27 12:34:41 PST 1998

Hi, just thought you might want to check on the correct spelling of Glen Campbell's name and then check the spelling on your \ hot pix page. Sure is a good insult to a super player and one you are trying to honor. Thanks Brian

Julian <DownesJ_DSA@compuserve.com> Sun Nov 29 02:38:50 PST 1998

Technical question: Should the bridge slant and should there be any string-length compensation on a fingerstyle Dobro?. The drawings I have do not show either slant or compensation and I don't understand why not and I am anxious the start building. Thanks.

Allen Jones <aj@ajsystemsinc.com> Wed Apr 15 09:11:37 PDT 1998

Dear Planet Dobro, There seem to be a lot of resonator guitars and dobros on the market. Any recommendations?

Clancy Mullins <kirkclan@onthenet.com.au> Thu Apr 16 21:43:42 PDT 1998

Hasn't anybody up there ever heard of Kirk Lorange? Great slide guitarist who moved to Australia from Canada in the seventies. He does all the session slide work DownUnder. He is the only player sponsored by Dobro in Australia. He released a fantastic album (WEA) several years ago. It's called Kirk Lorange - No Apostrophe. Do yourself a favour and have a listen if you can get your hands on it. I know him well as I have lived with him for the last 12 years and he can be contacted on this e-mail address. He would put a smile on Lowell's face. Over and Out from DownUnder (Ms) Clancy Mullins

lawrence boliek <lawrence.boliek2@gte.net> Fri Apr 17 06:05:55 PDT 1998

Lindsey <LAWarren@yahoo.com> Sun Apr 19 21:43:02 PDT 1998

Hi! I am 13\f\calif and I play guitar and bass in a jazz band. I own a "dobro takimine" and I was just wondering if you have seen any pictures or info abtou them. I love mine so much, but it's getting pretty old! I wanted to buy another one before the year was over. So, if anyone has any idea on where I can look into them let me know! Thanks, Lindsey

BOB STUCKEY <smokehouse allatars> Wed Apr 22 13:46:15 PDT 1998

Gary <lamerock@idirect.com> Sun May 3 10:35:10 PDT 1998

Can anyone tell me about an old slide guitar? It is grey to black burst with a red and green floweresque pattern on the outside edges. The fret board is white and seems to have a palm tree design in it. The guitar also has a red pinstripr binding. On the inside of it, it says B&A Masters London England Toronto Ont. est. 1862? and has a cat playin' a fiddle. I would like to know if anyone can tell me before my Grandfather sells it to this guy for $50.00 It's in good cond. and has the case also He says it's over 60 yrs old. Thanks G.B.

Big Daddy <gregg@sirius> Wed May 6 02:18:22 PDT 1998

If you guys have'nt heard Earl Hooker, you might want to check him out. He played the riff on You Shook Me by Muddy Waters that Jimmy Page played note for note. Jeff Beck owed ALL his slide playing to the Earl. Ronnie Earl was moved enough to take the man's name. Let's get him in there. '

Dobrojean <ceeleone@skynet.be> Wed May 6 12:46:47 PDT 1998

Anyone heard of Johnson ? It's a company that makes copies of full-metal Dobro's. Cheap&terrific, in my opinion. Does anybody share (or not) my experience with these Chinese-made resofonics?

Dick Thaxter <thaxter@erols.com> Fri May 8 05:23:34 PDT 1998

Great site, lots of useful info and good links. Keep up the good work. As I read this I'm listening to a CD of the original Paul Butterfield Blues Band album from the 1960's and remembering how I almost wore that record out in the basement in 1967 or so. Mike Bloomfield's slide playing on that album is outstanding!

Bob Falligant <ol5ndimer@aol.com> Sat May 9 15:41:15 PDT 1998

Has anyone played or tried out the Dobro DobroLektric? I have seen an ad for one on the www at a dealer. I checked out the Dobro website and found a picture and brief description but I wanted to get someone's firsthand experience. Thanks.

Steve DeCristofor <Steved@dc2-xsv1.coat.com> Thu May 21 17:57:17 PDT 1998

I can't remember what model resophonic Duane used. I always thought it was a National. Duolian maybe? Anyway I was wondering if you could help me out. Also do you know the name of the company that Duane's daughter Galadriel has that make a copy of the Coriciden bottle her father used. Any help would be appreciated. Steve p.s. Great site!

Cary Thompson <ASATCat@aol.com> Sat May 30 21:33:28 PDT 1998

Can anybody at Planet Dobro tell me how to cut a real bottleneck? I don't know if I'm not scoring the neck deeply enough, or if I'm heating the bottle too long, or whatever else I may be doing wrong. Is there any info on the web? Thanks in advance. Cary

This is a great thing you are doing with this website! You said you'd like suggestions - so here goes: how about a plyers tech page? Where users could send in tabs of songs or licks they've worked up, tuning tips, etc. Keep up the good work! Roger

Jeff Wicks <JPWICKS@INTERMEDIA.COM> Tue Jul 7 09:34:57 PDT 1998

I just installed a Mcintyre pickup in my metal body Dobro Duolian, positioning of the pickup on the cone can yield considerable tonal differences, but run through my SWR California Blonde it produced a cool cone tone. Also, Any info about the DOBROLEKTRIC would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I play slide on an old Gibson acoustic and want to switch to a dobro/resonator for the sound. I live in the Philadelphia, PA area and would like to know any recommendations for a used guitar. If anyone has one to sell, please feel free to e-mail. Thanks.

Mark Falco <bturt@downcity.net> Fri Jul 31 18:44:23 PDT 1998

What an amazing site and great links! Thank you. How about Brian Jones as an addition to the Legion Of Honor ??

Steve <See@Grave.Swept.Clean> Tue Aug 4 04:29:31 PDT 1998

Just to recommend a superb guitarist I saw live last week - Kelly Joe Phelps. He plays acoustic fingerpicking/slide holding the guitar lap-style and also the more convenient way. I've never heard such skilled slide work - he used to be a jazz guitarist which I guess is were he got his technique from. He has records out on Burnside and Rykodisc.

Brett <blindbrett@hotmail.com> Wed Aug 5 09:19:39 PDT 1998

I'm a newcomer to the net but an old slide-blues lover.I'm addicted to guitar repair, modification and restoration. Its great to finally find a forum where I can share ideas and gather info from others with this interest. Does any one have an opinion on the Korean Regal resonator guitars? The price is right but what about the quality? By the way , my favorite slider is George thorogood.

Bunky <rbernste@zoo.uvm.edu> Mon Aug 10 18:22:25 PDT 1998

Hi--any Dobro repairists out there? I'm replacing the resonator on my 1960's vintage dobro and am wondering if the new one should be glued in or just laid onto the sound well. If glued, what is the right stuff to use? Appreciate your help! Bunky

Mark Marlowe <marlowe@aloha.net> Wed Sep 2 10:06:08 PDT 1998

Aloha, I am currently setting up a round neck Dobro for bottle neck use and would like your opinion...What would be a good compromise in nut height as I will be fretting as well as playing slide and want a good clean slide sound without fretting sharp on the lower frets...I'll most likely have a 8-9/64ths height at the 12th fret and am measuring the nut height from bottom of string to top of fret w/feeler gauge...Any suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Mahalo Nui Loa, Mark

Dennis Hartzell <hartzell@satc.com> Tue Sep 8 10:22:10 PDT 1998

I have a 1932 Dobro V-neck that was given to my father in 1932. It's a sunburst finish and in exc. shape. The case is beat, but the ax is fine. What's this puppy worth anyways?

This is a great site for all slide players. Slide guitar in all musical forms seems to be experiencing somewhat of a rediscovery and all of us who perform on these instruments may want to take heed of this popularity. Let's take advantage of forums like this to broadcast info. -Mark

RICK MIFFLIN <SMOKEHOUSE ALLSTARS> Thu Oct 1 14:34:06 PDT 1998

FOR AMPLIFYING AN ACOUSTIC RESONATOR GUITAR,THE BEST WAY I HAVE FOUND IS TO USE A MCINTYRE RESO GUITAR PICKUP MOUNTED ON THE SPIDER BRIDGE, PREFERABLY THE LEG EXTENDING TOWARD THESTRAP BUTTON.IT HAS A VERY TRUE SOUND, CLOSEST TO NATURAL THAT I'VE FOUND,AND I'VE TRIED THEM ALL.IF YOU ALSO USE A MINI-MIC INSIDE THE BODY AND BLEND THE TWO SIGNALS TO YOUR TASTE, YOU CAN GET A SOUND THAT IS ABOUT AS CLOSE TO NATURAL AS POSSIBLE.HOWEVER, NOTHING BEATS A REALLY GOOD CONDENSER MIC.I USE AN A.K.G. C-1000S AND LOVE THE SOUND I GET OUT OF IT. SLIDE ON!!

Dave <mfegley@vgernet.net> Thu Oct 1 19:16:09 PDT 1998

Paul Williams <ptw@prodigy.net> Sat Oct 10 06:12:38 PDT 1998

I've set up my Johnson Resophonic and my Baby Taylor M with D'Addario resophonic Phosphor bronze strings, EJ42s, and I think these strings tremendously enhance the treble response. I have often read that, when setting a guitar up for slide, you should use the heaviest strings available, but it wasn't until I tried the EJ42s that I realized the treble sustain was so dramatically enhanced by heavier treble strings. Does anyone know whether Johnson has a web site? I've spent a lot of time searching for it, so far unsuccessfully. I did find Music Industries web site but they don't post any Johnson Resophonic info.

AM <albercar@tin.it> Sat Oct 10 18:12:07 PDT 1998

Hi everybody. Anyone knows how to cut a bottle's neck, smooth its edges, etc?

Tim Norris <tnorris@seidata.com> Thu Oct 15 18:02:13 PDT 1998

I was wondering if anyone has had significant experience with the Johnson-Sterling resophonics and if in their opinion they are in the ball park as to tone, volume, and playability. The price is right and I need a second reso in addition to my Nat'l Style-O for stage use...but I would like to know if they perform. I've noticed several inquiries about cutting bottle neck slides. I've made my own slides for some time. I prefer the necks of brandy or cognac bottles since they tend to be thicker and more uniform. It is good to decide if you like a straight or curved slide. Some bottle necks have a slight curve or taper and can be advantageous in hitting single strings, particularly on the bass side. The necks of 750 ml wine bottles are fine but tend to be thin and uneven in thickness...not always a bad thing...but results in a thinner tone. Nothing can substitute for experimentation in finding the slide for you. When I cut a slide (typically 1/4 - 1-2 longer than neck width) I first score it as deeply as possible with a Dremel tool using a cut-off wheel. Doing it too fast, too hot will cause the glass to crack. After a good deep score tap below the score line with a small ball-pin hammer...the body of the bottle shoul just fall off. After this I grind the edge starting with a coarse then med. or fine grinding stone...then med. sanding wheel...then finally finishing it of with an emery wheel. Thresult is a smooth, rounded edge on the slide. I will make slides for you or advise . Just drop me a note.
